Vincent “James” Camardo, 86, of Vineland, NJ passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 5, 2014, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Mary (Fornito) Camarda of Pennsylvania. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Santa (Cipriotti) Camardo, son Joseph (Janeane) and daughter Mary. He was the loving grandfather of Matthew, Alyssa and Jimmy Camardo. Born in Manhattan, New York in 1928, he graduated high school with honors, and later attended Roosevelt Aviation Technical School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Air National Guard, in White Plains, New York. He served during the Korean Conflict as a Hydraulic Specialist and as a Flight Engineer. He completed his service achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. Upon moving to Vineland, he worked for Delsea Lanes Bowling Alley as their Chief Mechanic. After completing night school, he became a licensed Cosmetologist and Cosmetology teacher. For the next 39 years he owned and operated Mark Antony’s Hair Fashions, retiring in 2006. Vincent was a master model kit builder, especially of the aircraft he had worked on, with keen attention to detail. He was a published writer of articles on aircraft for the American Aviation Historical Society Magazine, and he especially enjoyed reading books on aviation, World War II and Italy. He enjoyed photography and traveling, especially to Maine, and loved music, most notably, his beloved Frank Sinatra recordings.
A church visitation will be on Friday, October 10 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. from Saint Isidore’s Church, Christ the Good Shepherd Parish, 1655 Magnolia Road, Vineland, NJ 08361. Inurnment will be at Sacred Heart Mausoleum, Sacred Heart Cemetery, 741 East Walnut Road, Vineland, NJ 08360.
