Sandra Ann DeCosta

Vineland – Sandra Ann DeCosta, age 85 of Vineland, passed away peacefully at home after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease, on Tuesday, November 13, 2018.

Sandy was born in Altoona, PA to the late Walter and Helen (McNeal) Morrow and resided in Vineland for most of her life. She was a graduate of Huntingdon High School with the Class of 1951. Sandy was employed as Head Cashier for Pantry Pride and Shop N’ Bag grocery stores and later as a Sheriff’s Officer for over 20 years with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s/Probation Department.

She was a woman of faith, insisting on her children to attend Sunday School, sing in the church choir and attend youth group. Sandy loved to read and instilled that in her children with weekly visits to the Vineland Public Library. She also took great delight in the athletic and academic successes of her offspring, rarely missing a ball game or school event. Sandy loved the Jersey shore and the pink sands of Bermuda, but her heart will forever be with the mountains of Pennsylvania.

Our favorite memories, are mom making cookies with her grandchildren and playing Rummy with her family. In her early years, getting on the back of her husband’s motorcycle to take a day trip around South Jersey always brought a smile to her face. She was a “mom” to many of the neighborhood children too! Sandy’s love for her friends and family will be forever etched in our hearts and minds.

She was predeceased by her son-in-law John Hepner in 2017.

Sandy is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, David S. DeCosta of Vineland. Her 9 devoted children; Barbara Meyrick (David), Daniel Appleby (Colleen), Nancy Hepner, Tim Appleby (Debbie Appleby-Scalfo) Bill Appleby (Luisa), Mary Jane Kopakowski (Louis), John Appleby, Carolyn Parker (Thomas) and Michael DeCosta. She will also be loved and remembered by her 19 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and cousin Dean (Darlene) Foster. Also 4 sisters-in-law, Linda DeCosta, Marian Toledo, Analisa Loder and Michelle Colon.
