Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton on Tuesday morning February 19th at 11 o’clock. The interment, with military honors, will follow at Greenwood Memorial Park in Millville. Friends will be received at the funeral home Monday evening from 6 until 8 and Tuesday morning from 10 until 11. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to the activities fund at the NJ Veterans Memorial Home, 524 North West Boulevard, Vineland, NJ 08360.

Pete J. Tisa, 94, died honorably and peacefully under the loving care of the staff at the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home in Vineland on Wednesday morning February 13, 2019. Pete had been a resident of the Memorial Home for the last 14 years; having moved there from his home in Bridgeton.

He was the husband of late Charlotte (nee Hutchinson) Tisa, who passed away in 2005. They had been married for 54 years when Charlotte died. Born in Port Norris on November 13, 1924, he was the son of the late Eugene and Josephine DeLario Tisa. Until 2005, Pete lived in the family home on Ridge Avenue in Bridgeton.

Mr. Tisa served in the US Navy during World War II as a Seaman First Class. He saw active duty in the European, American and the Asiatic Pacific Theaters. He received several medals and commendations and was honorably discharged in 1946.

Prior to entering the military he owned and operated Tisa’s Service Station in Cedarville. He held several other positions including working for the Coca Cola Bottling Company, the Dorchester Shipyard and the Murbeck Company and its successor, Stevecoknit. For 13 years he served as the night time maintenance supervisor for the Bridgeton Board of Education. His last place of employment was at Bob Novick Auto Mall as a driver and parts manager.

Mr. Tisa was a district commissioner with the Boy Scouts of America and had served as a scoutmaster for Troop #1. He was a founding member of the Sun and Fun Swim Club in Bridgeton. He especially enjoyed his time spent with the Blair family while flying hot air balloons.

Mr. Tisa’s family is extremely grateful to the staff of the NJ Memorial Home for the excellent care their father and grandfather received during his 14 year residency there.

He is survived by two sons, Benjamin Tisa and his wife Karen of Deerfield Twp. and Ronald J. Tisa and his wife Diane of Upper Deerfield Twp., two grandchildren, Jamie Rossi and her husband John and Bryan Tisa and two great grandchildren, Jonathan and Jemma Rossi. He is also survived by one sister, Carmella Morrison of Upper Deerfield Township and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Rose Gilmore, three brothers, Augustine “Augie” Tisa, John Tisa and Phil Tisa and a brother-in-law, George Morrison.
