Julia J. Ranagan-Blackwell, 100, of Vineland passed away peacefully at her son’s home on Saturday, April 29, 2017. Julia was born in Blain, PA to the late Miles D. Gerber, Sr. and Mary Enterline Barnhart and graduated from Dickenson College in 1939.
Julia was the Director of the Medical lab at Newcomb Hospital from 1948 until her retirement in 1975. After her retirement she lived in Florida & Mexico before returning to Vineland. Julia was inducted into the Cumberland County Hall of Fame for being the first female to receive the Vineland Citizen of the year award in 1966, for being the founder of the Red Cross Blood Bank Program in Vineland, her leadership role in the Vineland Service committee and for starting the Diabetes Clinic. She co-chaired the New Jersey Medical Technology association, was on the Executive Committee of the Philadelphia Regional Red Cross Program and was on the Board of Directors of the TB and Health Association. She was the oldest member of the South Vineland United Methodist Church. Julia was a senior Grandmaster bridge player and an extensive world traveler.
Julia was predeceased by her husbands: William G. Ranagan Sr, Asa Randall, and Joseph Blackwell, son: William G. Ranagan Jr., grandson: William G. Ranagan III, brother: Miles D. Garber Jr., and sisters: Vera Mae DeSantis and Gail Myers. She is survived by her son & daughter-in-law: Walter M. & Linda J. Ranagan, granddaughter:Colleen (Matthew) Moranor, six step grandchildren, 6 step great grandchildren, four step great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
