John Andrew Majek

Pittsgrove – John Andrew Majek, 95, of Pittsgrove, NJ passed away on December 24, 2018. He was born in Brooklyn, NY to recent Polish immigrants, Jacob and Mary Majek, and later lived on Napoleon St., Newark, NJ.

He attended EastSide High School in Newark before entering the US Navy in 1941. He served in the US Navy in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. Soon after the end of the Second World War, he served in the US Navy Reserves in Pensacola, FL. For the remainder of his working life, he was a draftsman and munitions technician for the US Army at Picatinny Arsenal in Morris County, NJ. As a young father, he enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing and skiing with his two sons. He served as Cubmaster to Pack 35 for 8 years in Mount Tabor, NJ. After losing his first wife, Regina (Tanski) to cancer in 1988, he remarried Martha (Polhamus) in 1992 and enjoyed his retirement traveling and participating in square dance and ballroom dance activities. He was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Rosenhayn.

John was the only boy in a family of six children; three of his sisters survive him: Wanda Conneely, Gene Bunk and Irene Jones; two sisters predeceased him: Lottie Przybylinski and Estelle Mikulicka.

He is survived by his wife, Martha (Polhamus) and her five children and their families: James Baily, Betty James, Sherry Hand and husband Doug, Martha Davidson and her husband Warren and Dennis Bailey.

He is survived by his sons of his first wife and their families: Bradley Majek (wife Cathy deceased) and Warren Majek and wife Ann. Grandchildren: Jayme Torelli, husband Chris, Ryan Majek, wife Amanda and Alexander Majek. And Great Grandchild Cate Torelli.
