Fairton – Grace Boss (nee Foster), 85, passed away at her home Wednesday, January 16, 2019.
Grace was born on January 19, 1933 to the late Charles Foster and Martha (Maass) Foster. She was raised in Newport and graduated from Bridgeton High School. As a teenager she played the accordion in a country band and later went on to compete in various local beauty pageants, winning Miss Downe Township at the county fair in 1949. It was in a beauty contest that her future husband, Richard Willett Boss, first noticed her. They were married February 17, 1952. After high school, Grace went on to become a switchboard operator for Bell Telephone and later for Wheaton Glass. Richard and Grace resided in Fairton for their entire married life where they raised three sons and a daughter.
Grace was known as a great cook, always willing to feed an unexpected guest, and for her green thumb, her roses always received glorious compliments. Upon retirement, she enjoyed camping in the summer in Cape May and loved the beach. In the fall she and her husband camped in Lancaster and traveled to Florida in the winter.
Grace was quite the stylish dresser and never left the house without being properly coiffed. She enjoyed crocheting, especially alongside her furry companion, “Katie.” Grace was also a faithful member of the Victory Assembly of God.
She is survived by four children, Dr. Richard Boss (Lynda), Sharon Boss, William Boss, Sr. (JoAnne) and Arthur Boss, nine grandchildren, Christopher Boss, Darien Boss, Samantha LaRosa (Dennis, Jr.), Kelly Boss, Samuel Boss, Garrett Boss, Taylor Boss, William Boss, Jr. and Richard Boss, III, one great-grandson, Dennis LaRosa, III, a brother, Charles Foster (Sally), a sister, Bertha Cranmer, many nieces and nephews and Robin Boss, her friend and loyal caregiver for the last several years. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Lawrence Cranmer.
